International Conference on Mountains in the Changing World in Nepal

Kathmandu Institute of Applied Sciences (KIAS) has organized an international conference on “Mountains in the Changing World” (MoChWo) held in Kathmandu from October 1-2, 2016. The conference seemed very relevant since Nepal is mainly a mountainous country and it is facing several mountain related challenges in recent years. The convener of the conference Dr. Basant Giri informed the correspondent that more than hundred research papers were presented in the conference, and many prominent scientists from more than fifteen countries including USA, France, Germany, India, Portugal, UK, Canada presented their research papers. This conference provided an important platform for Nepalese researchers to present their research works in front of the internationally recognized scientists.
The keynote speakers of the conference were Prof. Dr Stefen Becker (City University of New York, New York, USA), and Prof. Dr. Monique Fort (University of Paris, Diderot, France). Prof. Becker delivered a talk related to climate change on the mountainous environments, where as Prof. Fort talked about mountain natural disasters and their managements in developing and developed countries linking the issues with France and Nepal. Prof. Fort had conducted many research projects related to mountainous issues and is well known among Nepalese researchers in the field.
Kathmandu Institute of Applied Sciences (KIAS) is a non-profit research organization established by young and dedicated Nepalese researchers having international recognitions in several applied fields. The organization has been conducting research projects directly linked to several problems that Nepal is facing in recent years; for examples air pollution, water quality, quality of pharmaceutical products, development of different analytical tools.
